Housing Assistance

Housing Assistance through COVID-19 Stimulus Funds:

2021 Illinois Rental Payment Program

Applications for the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) open May 17. The tenant must be at least 30 days behind on the rent.

Starting May 17, you can find the IL Rental Payment Program application here: ILRPP.IHDA.org

Ask your landlord to apply on May 17 or as soon afterward as they can. They can get all the back rent you owe, up to 12 months, plus up to 3 months going forward, up to $25,000. The landlord will receive the funds, and the landlord or management must apply. We believe this is first come first served. Landlords must begin their applications by June 6 and renters must finish their portion by June 13.

Tenants will receive an email when the landlord’s application is received and it is time for you to fill out your portion. Don’t worry, just try to get your landlord to apply. It is in their interest. They stand to receive all of their back rent, up to 12 months. Be friendly about asking. And there will be more programs like this coming.

Are you eligible for rental assistance?

Tenants: Income should be below 80% of Area Median Income: for household sizes of one to seven, this ranges from $52,200-$80,550, with priority for lower incomes.

Citizenship: not required. No ITIN number or social security number required. Will not count against applications for citizenship.
