Fire John Catanzara
As constituents of the 39th ward, we are appalled with the recent comments of Chicago FOP President John Catanzara supporting the attempted insurrection by a white supremacist mob in the US Capitol this past Wednesday, January 6th.
We call on Alderman Nugent to join with Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and immediately send a letter to President Catanzara demanding that he resign from his post as President of the Union.
We believe his comments in support of the White supremacists’ insurrection are not only morally, ethically, and professionally wrong, but are a violation of the oath of office he took as a law enforcement officer.
In addition, we call on Alderman Nugent to renounce her endorsement by the FOP Political Action Committee.
Further, we demand that Alderman Nugent send a letter to Mayor Lightfoot requesting that she immediately investigate if any Chicago police officers were present at the insurrection in Washington, DC by searching their social media, vacation, sick leave, or other paid time off requests or any other means available to the city as their employer.
Finally, we also ask that Alderman Nugent send a letter to Cook County Board President Preckwinkle urging her to likewise investigate the law enforcement officers under the jurisdiction of Cook County (Cook County Sheriff’s deputies, Cook County Jail officers, Forest Preserve Police, etc) - to root out supporters of this white supremacists’ insurrection. As the former Chief of Staff at the Cook County Department of Homeland Security, Alderman Nugent well knows that support of homegrown terrorism by white supremacist groups cannot be tolerated in Cook County law enforcement officers.
We also call on Alderman Nugent to post these letters on all her 39th ward social media.
